How to become an award-winning housebuilder
"Award-winning" has an enticing ring to it, and as a precursor to a company name, it packs an impressive punch. But how exactly can you achieve such an accolade?
"Award-winning" has an enticing ring to it, and as a precursor to a company name, it packs an impressive punch. But how exactly can you achieve such an accolade?
Pick your best asset
Firstly identify what it is about your company or development that stands out; is it the unique design of your homes? The way the homes fit in with their surroundings? The help your scheme gives the wider community? There is an award out there for all of these, so pinpoint your USPs and go and find it.
Employ an expert
This can be a tricky process, so seeking the help of an expert is key. This way they do the hard work for you and can shed light on the insider opinions of each award - some are held in higher esteem than others, and it's important to go for the most suitable and credible for your aims.
Create an amazing entry
The submission pack is arguably even more important than the project being entered. This will be the first introduction the judges have to your homes and it must quickly catch their eye, highlighting why you should be considered. This is where the copywriting and design comes in. They will immerse themselves in your project, learning all there is to know and tailoring your entry to capture the judges and get to the heart of their criteria.
Submit and wait
Once you have signed off your well-designed and professionally printed entry, this will be sent off to the awards body to be judged. Your employed experts will then keep track of timings, inform and organise any site visits that come as a result of your entry. If this does happen, it is the first victory of the process - by enticing the judges to visit your product you know they are already impressed, and now is the time for your product to shine.
Shortlisted
If, once the site visit is complete you become shortlisted, this is extremely promising. Now is the time to purchase your tickets to the award ceremony and plan your outfits. These are great events to attend, with glitzy venues, exciting guest speakers and plenty of opportunities to network. Best of luck!
If you are interested in entering an award and showcasing just how outstanding your new homes are, HD Marketing has an excellent track record in producing award-winning entries. To arrange an award consultation, please call us on 01892 576502 or email philippa@hdmarketing.co.uk.
8 Steps for success after planning permission
If you're new to the housbuilding game, or just haven't yet dipped your toe into property marketing waters, you may be overwhelmed with the range of different services on offer to help you sell your property. Once you have achieved planning consent, the next step is building and ensuring the success of the site. Here 's a helpful guide to help navigate you towards the end goal.
1. Strategy
Start by consulting a marketing professional to discuss your timelines and requirements, working together to lay out a detailed plan of action for the lifespan of the project. With a solid strategy in place, you may even be able to achieve sell out success before the contractors are out.
2. CGIs
You may have a clear end product in your mind, but can everyone else see it as clearly? This is where CGIs come into their own. Being able to accurately represent the internal and external vision is paramount to achieving future investment, popularity, and ultimately sales. Keep it simple with a single external mock up, or go into more depth with a detailed 3D fly through and animation.
3. Website/Holding Page
Cover your online presence by creating an attractive new holding website or update your current site with a news page. It is important to provide a space for updates and information about the site's progress, which can be easily seen and accessed by the public.
4. Teaser Campaign
Once the groundwork has been put in place, it's time to hit the ground running with a teaser campaign to get as many off-plan sales as possible. The more bases covered in this case the better; newspaper and magazine adverts, online banners, email campaigns, PR and social media - as many platforms as possible. By covering digital, social, and physical media with well-placed, informative messages, you will start to create interest and anticipation for your site, and a good marketing company will be able to advise on the best combinations for you.
5. Local Awareness
As well as canvasing awareness within the media, it's also important to direct people towards the site's location with signage. Whether it's a small AA sign on a rural lane, large hoarding to cover the entire site, or even a building wrap on the scaffolding, it will help trigger the interest of passers by.
6. Brochure
This is what customers will be taking away to show to their partners, families and friends, so it's got to be something that sells the lifestyle they are envisaging. Get a team of expert designers, writers, and photographers to help show your scheme in the best light possible.
7. Open Day
It's time to show off your site to the public - so now comes the all-important open day. There would be nothing worse than a sparsely populated event, which is why employing a marketing company with the tricks of the trade is a wise move. They will ensure that as many people as possible know when/where/what is happening, and guarantee that the houses are the starts of the show.
8. All Sold Out?
By now you will have sold all of your properties, congratulations! But don't drop the ball here - make sure you make the most out of the hard work you've put in. Get some professional photography of the homes, ask your new residents for some testimonials, or enter the scheme into an award. All these ventures will do wonders for your industry standing, public reception and future projects.

A guide to contemporary property technology
Now more than ever is a very exciting time for housebuilders, with technological advancements bringing renewed vigour to the industry - at a time when their efficiency has never been more important.
Now more than ever is a very exciting time for housebuilders, with technological advancements bringing renewed vigour to the industry - at a time when their efficiency has never been more important.
It's greener on the other side:
One of the biggest pioneering areas has to be that of green building materials, where an abundance of new products have been developed to help lessen a homes environmental impact. Take for example the Zip System Stretch Tape, a new material being used to make weatherproofing much easier and more effective. The innovate tape can stretch around any shape, is 40% quicker to use, and is more effective at insulating and protecting its underlying materials than a normal housewrap.
Another ground-breaking product is Altered:Nozzle, an attachment for taps that uses much less water than a standard tap. Its mist mode uses 98% less water and the super saver mode uses 75% less. Similarly, well renowned company GROHE have recently released a tap that amongst other things features bi-directional communication, allowing its users to see their usage information and consumption rates. These products are helping to raise people’s awareness of their environmental impacts, leading to a positive and easy switch to a more ecological lifestyle.
An interactive house viewing:
It is not just housebuilders that are storming ahead with new technologies. Estate agents are level pegging, with advancements that will make searching/purchasing a property that much easier. This is where virtual viewings are coming into their own, with more and more agencies introducing VR viewings via headsets, or 360-degree videos on phones. Many would argue that it is important for traditional estate agents to keep on top of the changing face of the market, with so many new proptech start-ups threatening them.
The rise of proptech has led to new ways to experience property buying and selling without the need of traditional estate agents. PurpleBricks is an online only estate-agent that promotes transparency with its customers by charging flat rates and allowing them to oversee every aspect of their transaction as it happens.
Similarly, Rentify is a site specifically for private landlords looking to rent out their property without the use of high street agents. Everything is organised through the platform, which has a 24/7 helpline, and charges a 4% commission as appose to the 15% that most estate agents apply.
Virtual Property Marketing:
From a property marketing perspective, we are harnessing the virtual tools that are now so readily available. Property CGIs have always been an important aspect for housebuilders to utilise, and here at HD Marketing, we are well versed in what's attractive within the market. Whether it is a flythrough of a new property, or 3D floorplans for a scheme not yet built, our CGI department is versatile in delivering the most accurate and realistic looking graphics to help sell our housebuilders projects.
